The Boiler Upgrade Scheme Is Your Way to Affordable Heat Pump Heating

Every winter, it’s the same story
And you pay more… just to feel “comfortable.”

Why keep burning fuel when you don’t have to?

There’s a smarter way to heat your home.

The Benefits You Get with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Savings estimated using standard UK assumptions. Actual costs vary by home and tariff.

How Much Could You Save With a Heat Pump?

Your current heating system is an “Efficiency Leak.” It’s time to plug it.
Gas, oil, or LPG? You’re paying for wasted energy, breakdowns, and rising fuel bills.
Switch to a heat pump with the BUS grant and save:

Gas?

Stop losing around £950 a year

Oil?

Keep an extra £1,150 in your pocket

LPG?

That’s £1,350 you could save

Electric storage?

That’s a huge £1,500+ savings every year

That’s more than just lower bills – it’s freedom. Freedom from unpredictable fuel costs, fewer repairs, and decades of warm, efficient comfort.

Do You Qualify for the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Most homeowners do. It takes 40 seconds to check.
If you tick just a few of these, you’re very likely eligible:
No income checks. No benefits required. No complicated forms.

Some Properties Are Excluded

What About Self-Build Homes?

Good news – many self-builds still qualify if:
Still Unsure? – Don’t Guess!
Talk to an MCS-approved installer to check eligibility. Not all homes are the same; eligibility is assessed per property.

A £10,000 Heat Pump? You Could Pay Just £2,500

Thanks to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, upgrading to a modern heat pump has never been easier – or cheaper.
Standard heat pump £10,000 → You pay £2,500
Add a smart thermostat & power flush? Still far below a new gas or oil system
Government covers 75% upfront – you enjoy lower bills immediately
Flexible instalment options are available for the remaining balance – pay over time, stress-free.

Your Home, Your Savings

Home Size System Power Total Cost (Est.) Your Est. Cost (After £7,500 Grant)
1–2 Bed Flat/Cottage 5kW – 7kW £8,500 £1,000
3-Bed Semi-Detached 9kW – 10kW £10,500 £3,000
4+ Bed Detached 12kW+ £13,000+ £5,500+
Why it matters:
Smaller homes = smaller heat pump = lower energy use = more savings in your pocket.
Plus, your new system is silent, low-maintenance, and built to last 25+ years.

Stop Paying £1 for Heat and Getting Just 80p Back

Old gas, oil, and LPG boilers waste energy.
You burn fuel… lose heat up the flue… and watch your bills climb every winter.
A heat pump works differently.
It moves heat instead of creating it, which means you get up to 4 UNITS of heat for every 1 UNIT of electricity used.
That’s up to 400% efficiency.

More heat for less energy

Stable electric costs - no gas or oil price shocks

Warm home all day, not expensive “on-off” bursts

Savings that compound every single year for 25+ years

Why keep paying more to burn fuel when you can use the air around you for free?

The EPC Power-Up: From D to B Overnight.

Your boiler is dragging your property value down. A Heat Pump pulls it up.
In 2026, an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) is like your home’s “Green Credit Score.” Fossil fuel boilers are the #1 cause of poor ratings. Swapping to a Heat Pump is the #1 Way to Fix it.
  • Higher efficiency → Lower bills
  • Greener home → Cut carbon
  • More value → Buyers love it
  • Future-proof → Stay ahead of energy rules
Don’t get left behind. As the UK nears Net Zero, “Fossil-Fuel” homes will face stricter regulations and higher taxes. By switching now, you aren’t just saving on bills; you are shielding your equity.

FAQ

Yes. You can still apply for a BUS grant even if you’ve previously received government support for energy efficiency upgrades like insulation, doors, or windows.

Eligible heating systems include:

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Ground or water source heat pumps
  • Biomass boilers (only in rural, off-gas homes)
  • Hybrid systems or replacement of existing low-carbon systems do not qualify.

You can receive:

  • £7,500 for an air source heat pump (best and most popular option)
  • £7,500 for a ground/water source heat pump
  • £5,000 for a biomass boiler (rural, off-gas only)

All values are deducted upfront from your installer’s quote. Savings and efficiency are assumed under UK standard conditions.

You’re likely eligible if you:

  • Own the property (home, rental, or small business)
  • Are replacing a fossil fuel or electric heating system
  • The property is in England or Wales
  • Have a valid EPC issued within 10 years
  • Use an MCS-certified installer to complete the installation within 120 days of applying

You can apply for BUS for a self-build if you built it yourself, never business-owned, with proof (e.g., title deeds). You can also apply for new builds only if you moved into a finished property with an existing fossil fuel system.

Biomass boilers are not eligible for self-builds.

Under UK standard conditions, replacing a fossil fuel boiler with an air source heat pump can:

  • Cut carbon emissions by 1-3 tonnes per year
  • Save up to £520 per year on energy bills

Your actual savings will depend on your home size, insulation, and usage.

The BUS scheme is installer-led, which means that your MCS-certified installer:

  • Verifies the eligibility of the property
  • Applies for the BUS grant on your behalf
  • Installs the system to industry standards
  • Reclaims the grant directly from Ofgem

You will pay less upfront, as the value of the grant is subtracted from your quote.

MCS-certified installers will ensure that: The BUS and Ofgem criteria are met Your system is installed and commissioned correctly You get the upfront grant deduction You get peace of mind with quality assurance and warranties Selecting the right installer is very important to secure your grant of £7,500 safely and efficiently.
